Fruit, vegetable exports fall 14%

Exports of fresh fruits and vegetables witnessed a decline of 13.81 per cent in April 2004-05 to $27.52 million from $31.93 million in the previous year.
In rupee terms, exports decreased by 20.08 per cent to Rs 120.90 crore in April 2004-05 against Rs 151.27 crore in April 2003-04.
Floriculture products exports decreased by 8.83 per cent to $2.93 million in April this year from $3.22 million in the corresponding month last year.
Following a similar trend, poultry and dairy products exports declined by 22.46 per cent to $6.08 million in April this fiscal from $7.84 million in the same period the previous fiscal.
Meat and its preparations, however, showed an increase of 9.61 per cent to $23.92 million in April 2004-05 as against $21.82 million in April 2003-04.
Fruits and nuts imports declined by 11.59 per cent to $10.38 million in April 2004-05 from $11.74 million in April last year, according to the data compiled by the Commerce Ministry.
Milk and cream imports declined by 91.43 per cent to $0.03 million in April 2004-05 as against $0.312 million in April 2003-04.
